Still Life 1 - Chapter 5
Victoria's adventure in Still Life Chapter 5 continues with the Fireplace Puzzle at the Red Lantern, which will also conclude this chapter. In our walkthrough we'll show you where to find the missing items, including both halves of the key, along with the missing puzzle piece. Then we'll take you through to the end of the chapter by solving the puzzle and reaching the reception journal.
Half a Key and a Puzzle Piece
With the completion of the Statue Puzzle, Victoria will descend into the special part of the club. Of particular note in the first room of this new area would be the reception desk and the stained glass mural on the ceiling.
First, check out the reception desk. It's between the two doors near the top-right center of the screen. When you have a close-up of the desk Victoria will make a comment that she needs to find a way to reach that book. Unfortunately, the reception desk is behind a wall of iron bars. You can also check out the mural in the ceiling, which, in its own special way, depicts the same four women as the statues upstairs did.
To find a way around those bars, you'll have to collect a few items, and solve a picture puzzle. Leave this room via the door at the top of the screen to the right of the stairs.
If you look closely at the fireplace in the wall, you'll notice it has a keyhole. But no key. However, if you check out the items on the fireplace mantel, you will find half of a key along with a piece of a picture. Take both of these items. Obviously that half key will be needed, and that picture piece is the key to getting the other half of the key you need for that fireplace.
With the two items in hand, head back to the main room through the door at the top of the screen. Then you'll want to head through the door to the right. This will take you to the room with the Fireplace Puzzle.
In this room you can find a few objects for Victoria to inspect and make her typical and amusing comments. These items are along the bottom of the screen. The picture puzzle itself, however, is above the fireplace towards the top right of the screen. Head over and activate it now.
Solving the Picture Puzzle over the Fireplace
To solve the picture puzzle you'll need to move the pieces into the correct position to form a proper picture. You'll then need to insert the final piece to make the picture complete. Screenshot 4 shows the complete picture just as the secret compartment is starting to open.
By clicking on different parts of the picture the pieces will move. The trick here is to click the right pieces in the right order. That order is:
8, 9, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 7, 8, 9, 6, 5, 4, 1, 2, 5, 6, 3, 2, 5, 4, 7, 8, 5, 4, 1, 2, 3, 6, 9, 8, 5, 6, 3, 2, 1, 4, 5
Then use the piece from your inventory on the center spot. This will complete the picture and cause a secret compartment to open. Take the key and head back to the fireplace in the other room.
Once you are back at the fireplace with the keyhole, open your inventory to combine the two halves of the key, if you haven't already done so. All you have to do now is look closely at the fireplace and use the complete key on the keyhole.
The Reception Book
Victoria will transition to a new room once you use the key on the fireplace keyhole. From here you'll only need to head to the right and you'll be standing behind the reception desk where you can reach the book.
The Red Lantern Fireplace Puzzle Wrap-Up
The cutscene that starts when you have Victoria look at the reception book brings Chapter 5 to a close. Hopefully you were watching closely as she went through the list of names. She may have only commented on Mark Ackerman, but there was another interesting name on that list, Todd Browning. Hmmm... isn't that Victoria's boss?
